The 150 Movers

Frequently Asked Questions

Seventeen years of moving Houston. Here are the questions we get most.

Pricing

It depends on the size of the move, the distance, and access conditions like stairs or long carry distances. Local moves are priced hourly by crew size. A typical one-bedroom apartment move runs a few hours. A three-bedroom house is a half-day or more. The best way to get a real number is to call us or request a quote. We'll ask a few questions and give you an honest estimate.

The biggest money saver is packing yourself and having everything sealed and ready to load when we arrive. Open boxes, half-packed rooms, and loose items slow everything down. Every minute we spend waiting, wrapping things that could have been boxed, or clearing a path is time on the clock. Other things that keep costs down: ground floor or elevator access, short carry distance from your door to the truck, furniture that's already disassembled, and having a clear idea of what's going and what's staying. The more prepared you are, the faster we work, and faster means cheaper.

No. We quote you a rate and that's what you pay. No fuel surcharges, no stair fees tacked on after the fact, no surprise charges at the end of the move. If something about your move is going to affect the price — long carry distance, specialty items, extra stops — we tell you upfront during the estimate.

It's still on the menu. It's the rate we built this company on back in 2009, and it's where our name comes from. These days most of our work is full moves, so it isn't the headline anymore, but $150 is still our starting point for the simple stuff: on low demand days and times for furniture deliveries, in-home rearrangement, and very small item list moves with short drives needing two movers, one truck, about an hour, inside the Houston city radius. It was never meant for long distance moves, large multi-bedroom jobs, or anything that needs extra crew or specialty equipment. For an actual move, we quote an honest hourly rate based on what you really need. Call us and we'll tell you straight up what fits your situation.

What Affects Your Move Time

Be packed. Be ready. Have a plan for where things go at the destination. Label your boxes by room. Disassemble bed frames and desks if you can. Clear a path from your front door to the truck — move bikes, shoe racks, anything in the hallway. If we can walk in, grab, and go without stopping to problem-solve, the move flies.

Elevators are easier. Stairs are faster. That surprises people, but think about it: with stairs, we go at our pace. With an elevator, we're waiting on the elevator, sharing it with other residents, and walking longer hallways to get to it. A third-floor walkup with a short carry to the truck often goes quicker than a twelfth-floor unit with a freight elevator at the end of a long corridor. Both are fine. We do both every day. Just don't assume the elevator is automatically saving you time.

Yes. Even a couple of front porch steps or a short half-flight count. It's not just about the climbing — steps mean we can't roll a dolly straight out your door. Every heavy item has to be lifted over those steps by hand. A couple of steps won't add much time. Three flights will.

There's no single answer because it depends on more than just bedrooms. Houston is a sprawling city — a one-bedroom move from Montrose to the Heights is a completely different job than a one-bedroom move from Katy to Pearland. Distance matters. Drive time between locations is time on the clock. Beyond that, access conditions at both addresses make a big difference: what floor you're on, how far the truck can park from your door, whether furniture needs disassembly. As a rough guide, a one-bedroom with average furniture and a short distance usually takes 2 to 4 hours. A two-bedroom runs 3 to 5. But the honest answer is that every move is different, and the best way to get a real estimate is to give us the details.

Services & What We Move

Hazardous materials, propane tanks, gasoline, ammunition, and anything flammable or pressurized. Beyond that, we move just about everything — gun safes, pool tables, oversized furniture. If you've got something unusual, just mention it when you book so we bring the right equipment.

Yes. Bed frames, desks, dining tables, sectional sofas. If it needs to come apart to get through a doorway or down a stairwell, we handle it. If you can take things apart before we arrive, that saves time and money. Either way works.

Seven days a week, including some holidays. Weekends are our busiest days, so booking early helps.

Yes. We can pack your entire home or just the fragile stuff — kitchens, artwork, mirrors, electronics. A lot of customers do a hybrid: they box up clothes, books, and easy items themselves and let us handle the things that need professional wrapping. That's usually the best balance of cost and protection.

Booking & Scheduling

A week is usually enough for weekday moves during slower times of the year. During the peak season and for weekend moves, call as soon as you know you're moving so we can get you scheduled — especially if you want a morning slot. That said, we handle last-minute moves regularly. Call us and we'll see what we can do.

Both addresses or zip codes. Number of bedrooms. What floor you're on and whether there's elevator access. Any large or specialty items like safes or pool tables. A preferred move date. That's enough for us to give you an honest estimate.

Sometimes. It depends on crew availability. Call us — if we have a truck open, we'll make it happen.

Licensing, Insurance & Damage

Yes. TXDMV licensed (006451685C), fully insured, and BBB A+ rated. We've maintained that rating since 2009. You can verify our license on the TXDMV website anytime.

Every licensed Texas mover automatically carries the state's standard valuation — 60 cents per pound, per item. For valuable furniture, you can buy up to Full Value Protection or use a third-party policy. If anything is damaged on your move, tell the crew on the spot or call the office within 24 hours and we'll document it and file a claim.

Tips are never expected and always appreciated. If the crew does a great job, they'd be delighted to receive a tip. A cold water or Gatorade during the move goes a long way too. Houston heat is no joke.

Logistics & Equipment

Yes, frequently. Whether you're loading into storage, pulling out of storage, or both in the same day, we handle it. Just give us the facility name and unit size when you book so we plan the right crew and truck.

In the Bayou City, we generally move rain or shine. We wrap and protect your furniture regardless of weather. If there's a hurricane or other dangerous conditions, your move may need to be rescheduled to ensure the safety of our crew and your possessions. We'll communicate with you as early as possible if that's the case.

Yes. Gun safes are heavy and awkward, but our crews move them regularly. Let us know the approximate weight when you book so we bring the right equipment and enough hands.

No. We understand the appeal, but it's a liability issue. You're welcome to follow us in your own vehicle or meet us at the destination.

A trip charge covers the cost of getting our crew and truck to your location. It's calculated based on your starting address and can shift slightly based on factors like fuel costs and distance from our dispatch area. Give us your cities or zip codes when you book and we'll give you our best price. No surprises.

Yes, we're very familiar with building restrictions like reserved elevator times, loading dock schedules, and mandatory move-in hours. This is common in Midtown, Downtown, and Galleria high-rises. Let us know your building's requirements when you book and we'll plan around them.

It depends on the size of your move. Every job has at least two movers. Larger homes or more complex moves may have four to six. We'll recommend the right crew size during your estimate based on what you're moving and the access conditions at both locations.

It depends on the move. Our smallest jobs can be handled with a truck and trailer. Our largest jobs go out in full-size box trucks. We match the vehicle to the volume so you're not paying for space you don't need.
