The 150 Movers

Pricing

How Much Does It Cost
to Hire Movers in Houston?

We've been pricing moves since 2009. Here's exactly how it works — no surprises, no fine print.

The Foundation

The Rate We Were
Founded On.

In 2009, we set out to find the lowest honest price for two movers and a truck. The answer was $150 — and we built an entire company around it.

That number is where The 150 Movers got its name. These days most of our work is full moves — apartments, houses, and offices — but the same honest, two-movers-and-a-truck spirit still shows up in the simple stuff: furniture deliveries and in-home rearrangement.

For larger moves — apartments, houses, offices, long-distance — your quote is based on the factors below. But every quote we give starts from the same principle: charge honestly, explain everything, and never surprise the customer with the bill.

How We Price

The Things That Determine Your Moving Cost

Your move cost is calculated by these four factors.

Time

How long it takes to complete your move

Crew Size

The number of movers & trucks needed

Distance

How far you're moving and where

Complexity

Stairs, specialty items, and more

Factor 1

Time — How Long Will It Take?

Local moves in Houston are priced by the hour. The longer your move takes, the more it costs. That's why everything on this page matters — every factor below either adds time or saves it.

Volume of stuff

A one-bedroom apartment takes 2–3 hours. A four-bedroom house with a packed garage takes 6–8+ hours.

Packing status

If everything is boxed and ready, we wrap furniture, load, and go. If we're packing the kitchen, or need to tape all your boxes, that adds significant time.

Building logistics

Ground-floor with the truck nearby is fast. A 15th-floor condo with a freight elevator and 200-foot hallway is slower — even with less stuff.

Estimated Time by Move Size

Move SizeTypical Time
Studio / Small 1BR1–2 hours
1BR Apartment2–3 hours
2BR Apartment3–5 hours
3BR House4–6 hours
4+BR House6–10+ hours

These are estimates. Your actual time depends on all the factors on this page.

Factor 2

Crew Size — How Many Movers?

Rule of thumb: roughly one more mover than you have bedrooms — up to a point. More movers doesn't always mean faster, but for bigger homes, the efficiency saves time and money.

Factor 3

Distance — Where Are You Moving?

Within the Houston city radius

Moves inside the 610 Loop and nearby neighborhoods are priced on time and crew. No trip charge.

Suburban Houston area

Katy, Sugar Land, The Woodlands, Cypress, Pearland, Kingwood, League City — moves to or from these areas include a trip charge that covers drive time.

Long-distance

Moves to Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, or elsewhere in Texas are quoted as flat-rate jobs based on distance and volume — not hourly.

Factor 4

Complexity — The Things That Add Time

This is where most customers get surprised on moving day. Every one of these adds time to the clock.

Stairs

The single biggest time factor most people underestimate. Every flight of stairs adds time to every single trip. One flight can add an hour or more to a full move.

Elevators

Elevators are easier than stairs, but not faster. Waiting for the elevator, sharing it with other residents, load limits, and long trips to the elevator bank all add up.

Long Carry Distance

If the truck can't park right at your door — common in The Heights, Montrose, and Downtown high-rises — every trip is longer. Let us know distance to your door when you book.

Disassembly & Reassembly

Bed frames, large desks, sectional sofas, dining tables — anything that needs to come apart — adds 15–30 minutes per item.

Oversized & Specialty Items

Gun safes, pool tables, marble-top furniture, oversized artwork — these require extra time, extra care, and sometimes extra crew.

Packing Services

Full packing for a two-bedroom apartment can add 2–3 hours. For a four-bedroom house, it could add a full day.

Save Money

How to Save Money on Your Move

Purge before you pack

Every item you don't move is time saved. Donate, sell, or trash anything you don't need at the new place.

Pack yourself

Even partial self-packing saves significant time. Focus on closets, bookshelves, and non-fragile items.

Disassemble what you can

Bed frames, IKEA furniture, desk setups — anything you can take apart before we arrive saves 15–30 minutes per item.

Clear the path

Make sure hallways, doorways, and staircases are clear of obstacles. Move shoes, rugs, and small furniture out of the walkway.

Book mid-week, mid-month

Weekends and end-of-month dates are the busiest times for movers. Tuesday–Thursday, mid-month offers better availability.

Label boxes by room

If we know where every box goes without asking, unloading is dramatically faster.

Tape and seal every box

Make sure all boxes are taped shut and ready to move when your movers arrive. Open or half-packed boxes slow everything down — we can't safely stack or carry them until they're sealed.

Be ready when we arrive

The clock starts when we show up. If packing isn't done or the path isn't clear, that's time on the clock.
