The Neighborhood
Houston's Vertical Neighborhood
Most of Houston sprawls. The Galleria builds up. High-rise condos and luxury towers line Post Oak Boulevard, San Felipe, and Westheimer near the 610 interchange — buildings like The Astoria, Belfiore, and Montebello, 20 to 40 stories tall. Pockets of townhomes fill in between, and Tanglewood next door has some of the most expensive single-family homes in the city. This is Houston's densest residential corridor outside downtown.
Every Galleria building has its own rules. Freight elevator reservations booked 2-4 weeks out. Time blocks of four to six hours. Loading docks with height clearances that won't fit every truck. COI paperwork due before the building lets you past the lobby. And then there's 610 traffic, which can burn an hour before you even reach the dock. We've been running Galleria moves since 2009. We know every building's process before we show up.

What to Expect
Moving Challenges in The Galleria Area
Every neighborhood has its quirks. Here's what makes moving in the Galleria area different — and why experience matters.
Freight elevator reservations required weeks in advance
Most Galleria high-rises require elevator bookings 2-4 weeks before your move date. Elevators are reserved in time blocks (commonly 4-6 hours) with strict start and end times. Missing your window can mean rescheduling the entire move.
Certificate of Insurance (COI) required by building management
Many Galleria high-rise and mid-rise buildings require a COI from the moving company before allowing access. This must name the building's management company or HOA as additionally insured. Movers who show up without it get turned away at the front desk.
Loading dock restrictions and truck size limits
Building loading docks often have height clearances, weight limits, and specific entry points. Some docks only accommodate standard box trucks — a 26-foot truck may not fit in certain garages along Post Oak or San Felipe. Dock hours are commonly limited to 8 AM-5 PM weekdays, with weekend moves requiring additional approval.
Move-in and move-out fees
Many Galleria buildings charge fees ranging from $200-$500+ for each move, payable by the resident. Some buildings also require a refundable deposit against potential damage to common areas (lobbies, hallways, elevators). These fees and deposits are separate from the moving company's charges.
Severe traffic congestion around 610 and Post Oak
The 610/Westheimer/Post Oak interchange area is one of Houston's worst traffic bottlenecks. Rush hour (7-9 AM, 4-7 PM) can double transit times. Galleria moves should be scheduled for mid-morning or early afternoon whenever possible to avoid dead time sitting in traffic.
Limited staging area in condo units
Luxury condos often have open floor plans but limited hallway and entry space. Moving large items (sectionals, dining tables, mattresses) through controlled-access lobbies, down narrow condo hallways, and through standard-width apartment doors requires precise measurements and experienced crews.
