The Neighborhood
Townhomes, Mid-rises, and Weekend Bar Traffic
The Washington Corridor runs between Memorial Park and downtown — sometimes called Rice Military, sometimes just Washington Avenue. It's where Midtown's young professionals land when they want an extra bedroom and a garage. The housing is overwhelmingly vertical: narrow-lot townhomes with garages on the ground floor, living space on the second, bedrooms on the third. Mid-rise apartments and luxury complexes line Washington Avenue itself. The bar and restaurant strip keeps the neighborhood loud on weekends.
Nearly every Washington Corridor move involves interior stairs, tight entries through ground-floor garages, and shared driveways that won't fit a moving truck. Crews stage on the street and carry everything in. Weekend moves compete with nightlife traffic for parking — weekday mornings are strongly recommended. The upside is freeway access: I-10 and I-45 are minutes away, making this one of the fastest neighborhoods to reach from anywhere in Houston. We've been running Washington Corridor moves since 2009.

What to Expect
Moving Challenges in Washington Corridor
Every neighborhood has its quirks. Here's what makes moving in Washington Corridor different — and why experience matters.
Townhome-dominated housing with 3-4 flights of interior stairs
The vast majority of Washington Corridor moves involve carrying every piece of furniture up at least one flight. Some newer four-story units have rooftop terraces, meaning furniture goes up three full flights. Interior staircases are typically narrow with 90-degree landings.
Ground-floor garages as the primary entry point
Many Washington Corridor townhomes have no traditional front door at street level — the garage is the entry. Furniture must pass through the garage and up the interior stairs. Garage width and ceiling clearance can limit how items are staged.
Weekend nightlife traffic and parking competition
Washington Avenue between Shepherd and Westcott is a major bar and restaurant corridor. Friday and Saturday moves — or even late-afternoon moves — compete with nightlife traffic for parking. Weekday morning starts are strongly recommended.
Shared driveways and tight lot spacing
Townhome clusters share narrow driveways that may fit only one vehicle width. Moving trucks often cannot pull into the driveway at all and must stage on the street while crews carry items between the truck and the unit.
